Cars were flying at the PSCA Record Breaker Nationals in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Ron Shaw’s Street Challenge Mustang was no exception. The Street Challenge class is very unique in that it requires competitors to race on a true 255/60-15 street radial tire. That’s right… a REAL radial tire, no Drag Radials, no true racing tires of any kind. Ron’s Mustang ran an absolutely stunning 8.969 E.T. at 159.40 MPH!! Ron was chasing the 8-second zone all last season and finally got the magic number at the first race of the 2012 season. This performance placed Ron as the #1 qualifier and low E.T. for the event. This was also the very first 8-second E.T. ever in the Street Challenge class, and may very well be the fastest pass ever on this type of tire! Ron’s outstanding performance comes courtesy of a home-built and tuned nitrous-assisted small block Chevrolet engine backed by a Hughes Performance Heads Up Radial Tire torque converter and Hughes Performance TH400 transmission.
