William Charles Hughes, Sr. – 1925-2005

The eulogy of a man with a dream. A youth of 16 years old has a dream. He would strive to find the love of his life, to have a family and to see a world of being an entrepreneur . . . He was willing to work, no matter how hard, and that is what he did. He found his love, Lorraine, and together a dream was started.

This man (William C. Hughes) was the son of Esther and Charles Hughes of Chicago, Illinois. Born on December 2, 1925. Together with his wife they founded Hughes Performance when they moved to Phoenix in 1971 with their children, Janet Bleichroth (Larry), Bill Hughes, Jr., James Hughes and Jeffrey Hughes (Lisa). In 1979, Bill Sr. had two strokes, which pushed the children into running the business. The family did well, and to this day they maintain the wonderful Hughes Performance, which is known for their indestructible motor parts for racing and other after market products.

Indeed this is a proud family, that remembers the work ethics and leadership that their parents taught them in the very early years of their lives. After 60 plus years, he is survived by his wife, Lorraine, four children and their mates, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He also has a brother Bob (Arlene) from Western Springs, IL, a sister, Eileen Cermak from Sun City West, and a sister, Carole Freres from Mission Viejo, CA, his sisters-in-law, Joanne Buck, Stephanie Buck, Laverne Buck and many nieces and nephews and friends from all over. To know Bill Sr. is to love him and remember his generosity, wisdom and courage. He will be in our hearts forever, and not soon to be forgotten.
