Green Driving Tips

• Practice Good Maintenance – Stick to a regular schedule for basic vehicle care (oil changes, tune ups, etc.). Only use the recommended octane for your engine; using a higher octane won’t help your engine run better, but it will hurt your wallet. Also, remember simple DIY maintenance like changing air filters and keeping tires properly inflated will keep your vehicle in top shape and improve your gas mileage.

• Take a Load Off – Do the soccer team’s gear, your gym bag and that box of books in the trunk really need to go with you? Unload anything from the vehicle that doesn’t need to be there (you can keep your latte, though) – this goes for extra passengers as well. The more stuff you haul in the vehicle, the harder your vehicle has to work and that means lower fuel efficiency. The only exception to this rule is carpooling

• Ride Sharing – Yes, we just suggested limiting unnecessary passengers, but carpooling is a bit different than taking the whole family to pick up a gallon of milk. Just consider neighbors riding together to run a few errands, coworkers switching off days to drive each other to work, or families working out a group schedule for school drop offs. By sharing the driving, everyone saves on fuel, saves wear and tear on vehicles, and saves a little Green in the wallet.

• Easy Does It – Fuel efficiency is meaningless in the face of aggressive driving. Pay attention to your speed, accelerate moderately, maintain a reasonable distance from the vehicle in front of you (to avoid stop-and-go acceleration), and make liberal use of your cruise control to increase fuel efficiency. Consistent driving pays off.

• Time Is Money – Paying attention to the timing of your errands and driving, in addition to the above tips, will have you seeing Green. Rush hour driving, stop-and-go traffic, and searching for parking increase the amount of time and fuel spent in your vehicle. Time your driving and errands for off-peak hours.

• Consolidate Errands – By planning in advance and grouping errands together, you can keep your driving to a minimum. Hit the dry cleaners, and the grocery store on your way home from work. Make a menu for the week and do all the shopping at once. Instead of eating out, order delivery (the delivery service consolidates their driving, too!). The more you can group together into one trip, the better.

Full Miser 1000-1200
This is our gas mileage converter. By reducing the amount of slippage in our Fuel Miser converter by 25-30% we can effectively increase gas mileage by 2-4 miles per gallon, with a closer 1 to 1 lock-up.. Your transmission will run cooler with less friction, reducing heat build-up. Actual mileage gains may vary according to your type of driving and installation. Recommended for 400 cubic inch and larger gas engines as well as all diesel applications.

Tow Master 1800-2000
Our severe duty performance converter used in many late model trucks, crew cabs, 4x4's and motor homes will increase bottom end pulling power without sacrificing top end efficiency or lock-up. Mileage is increased by as much as 1-2 miles per gallon. Recommended for slightly modified engines.

XTM/XFM
These units comprise our finest tow convertor technology. All units are designed with Heavy Duty use in mind. From extra brazing to greater fluid capacity, bearing assemblies. special stator configurations and design increase torque multiplication, allowing more towing capacity and in most cases, increased gas mileage.

For the most significant towing by way of diesel engines that have their output increased, Hughes also offers the super-duty XFM series for the Ford Powerstroke, the Dodge Cummins and the GM Duramax. These units are built to take all the punishment these engines can create by using billet steel covers that cannot flex or distort even under the most challenging situations. Instead of trying to "lockup" the converter for increased efficiency and fuel mileage with any type of single disc, we have replaced it with a triple-disc design, which significantly increases the converters ability to endure the increase in torque and horsepower and still deliver top performance for your diesel application.
